The Google Now voice assistant has been supporting Indian English since quite sometime, but the company claims that the Indian accent will be easily recognized by Google Now and also showcased a demo of how this works to the tech media.
Users can choose the Indian English accent by navigating to Settings -> Voice -> Language -> choose English -> English (India) in Google Search. The Voice Search is supported by devices running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and above and it is also available in the Google Search app in iOS devices. The Indian Accent option was available earlier as well, but it wasn’t as accurate. The other highlights of the event include Knowledge Graph and Google Now. The latter uses Voice Search and helps the users in getting information such as weather, traffic route and others. It appears like Google has hosted this event to emphasize the impact of search in the Indian market and it was claimed that the firm expects to see 61 % of the Internet users to be mobile only in a couple of years from now. This is a great number for Google and it needs to capture the mobile search market for this to turn to reality.
