Display and Processor Sony has included a 5.2 inch Full HD IPS LCD TRILUMINOS display in the Xperia Z2 boasting a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 424 ppi pixel density. This display features the X-Reality Engine that analyzes the images to reproduce the lacking pixels, optimize the quality and enhance the contrast. Furthermore, the display is shatter proof and scratch resistant to withstand the daily wear and tear. On the other hand, the HTC One is fitted with a 5 inch Super LCD 3 display with a FHD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels translating to pixel density of 441 pixels per inch. Also, the screen is protected using the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 technology. When it comes to processing power, both the phones score well as they are stuffed with the latest Snapdragon 801 chipset housing a quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait processor coupled with Adreno 330 GPU. However, a variant of the HTC One aimed for markets such as Asia and China will feature 2.5 GHz Krait processor on board. It has to be noted that Sony has incorporated 3 GB of RAM in its flagship, while the HTC One M8 offers 2 GB of RAM. Camera and Internal Storage The imaging segment is one of the prominent division where the HTC One comes with flying colors. The company has made a revolution by including dual UltraPixel rear camera combined with dual LED flash. This second camera at the back is responsible in refocusing the image after capturing to provide improved performance. Also, there is a 5 MP front-facer to make video calls at FHD 1080p resolution and Zoe features that take the user experience to all new heights. Some of the features in the HTC One M8 camera include 4K video recording, image stabilization, HDR and others. In comparison, the Xperia Z2 features a 20.7 MP Exmor RS camera sensor with 4K video recording and digital image stabilization. Also, there is a 2.2 MP front facing camera enabling video calls. Talking of the storage capabilities, the Xperia Z2 comes with 16 GB of internal memory that is expandable up to 64 GB using a micro SD card. On the other side of the table, the HTC One comes in two variants – 16 GB and 32 GB, supporting up to 128 GB of expandable storage that should be more than enough for the users to storage all their content. Battery and Features A 3,200 mAh battery is housed in the Xperia X2 powering enough juice for the phone to last up to 19 hours of talk time, 740 hours of standby time and 120 hours of music play. The 2,600 mAh battery in the HTC One is claimed to deliver a talk time of 20 hours and a standby time of 496 hours. Anyways, both the phones feature impressive power saving modes that can quench the power issues of the consumers. Both the Xperia Z2 and One M8 run on Android 4.4.2 KitKat, the most recent iteration of Google’s operating system. While the HTC offering features the all new Sense 6.0 UI, the Sony phone has the custom Sony UI over it. On the data connectivity front, both the smartphones bring on board sufficient connectivity features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, NFC, LTE and micro USB with USB OTG. One unique feature in the Sony Xperia Z2 is that the smartphone is waterproof and dust resistant with the IP58 certification that helps it sustain rugged conditions like underwater for over 1 meter and 30 minutes. Key Specs Conclusion There are no doubts that the HTC One is the winner in the imaging department with its dual UltraPixel rear camera and incomparable front facer. But, the handset is no match for the Sony’s Xperia Z2 that comes with the IP58 certification. In terms of other specifications, both the phones fare almost equally and it is quite tough for one to conclude based on them. However, HTC One M8 is recommended for its exceptional camera qualities that remain unmatched since last year with the debut of One M7.
