There are innumerable devices in the quad core segment, from domestic as well as international manufacturers. This often creates confusion in the buyer’s mind, this is where our quick review helps. This post will tell you about and views on the new device, which should help you make up your mind.
Camera And Internal Storage
The Karbonn Titanium S9 features a 13 megapixel rear camera, which is something new for the category of smartphones it features in. Usually, manufacturers tend to include 8MP cameras in devices like this one, so we would assume that the rear camera on the Titanium S9 is one of the USP’s of this new device. The 13MP camera is backed by LED flash and comes with autofocus and other usual features like geo-tagging, face detection, etc. The fact that the phone comes with a 5MP front camera reassures our belief that the cameras are meant to be the phone’s USP. The 13MP+5MP camera combo is one of the best we’ve seen till date on a phone from an Indian manufacturer. Another segment where the phone impresses is the internal memory. The phone features 16GB of on-board memory, something which many other manufacturers find unnecessary and include just 4GB of storage. This memory can be further extended up to 32GB by using a microSD card.
Processor And Battery
There isn’t much of a need to speak about the CPU, since the phone packs the MT6589 from Mediatek which is an extremely popular processor, even more among domestic manufacturers. The processor packs 4 Cortex A7 based cores, all of which are clocked at 1.2 GHz. The CPU is paired with a PowerVR SGX 544 GPU, which makes a very powerful combo. The CPU/GPU combo is backed by 1GB of RAM, which means the phone will be pretty smooth in terms of general UI transitions as well as multitasking. The phone comes with a 2600mAh battery which does sound impressive for a device of this calibre. The battery should have enough juice to take the large-screen phone through one work day, if you’re not an extremely demanding user.
Display And Features
The Karbonn Titanium S9 comes with a 5.5 inch display, which should provide plentiful screen real estate even for the most demanding users. The biggest advantage of such a screen is realized when the user is browsing the web. Since the phone is backed by impressive hardware, pages are rendered pretty quickly, and the large screen makes for a pleasurable reading/browsing experience. The display type is IPS, which means the device will have impressive viewing angles. Among other features, the Karbonn Titanium features dual SIM features, where both the SIMs can be used at the same time. The phone comes with usual connectivity features like 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.
Comparison
There are virtually innumerable quad core phones from Indian manufacturers, but one phone which comes close to the screen size and has the same processor is the Lenovo S920. Apart from the S920, the Karbonn Titanium S9 will face tough competition from other 5 and 5+ inch devices like the Canvas HD from Micromax, Xolo Q1000, etc. It will be interesting to see how well the Titanium S9 fares in the market given the price tag.
Key Specs
Conclusion
The Karbonn Titanium S9 comes with rather impressive specs, and is pretty much what we expected the Lenovo S9 to be. However, the 19,990 INR price tag might be a bit too much for some. We do expect the prices to fall with passage of time, but the important thing will be, by how much they fall. If the drop is in the range of 10-15% of the initial cost, it will make it one of the best phones in the price range, given the build is not too bad.
