After posting a couple of teasers, LG has made its G Watch R official ahead of its IFA launch. The highlight is of course the round dial and we have to admit that Android Wear based G Watch R is miles ahead of its predecessor in terms of style.
“What we’ve noticed in the year of the wearable is that this is a category that can’t be compared to smartphones and tablets. Wearables are also accessories and consumers will want more than one to choose from. So we wanted to complement the modern design of the original G Watch with the classic look of the G Watch R. Customers can’t go wrong with either device,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. On the hardware front, this one will have a 1.3 Inch Plastic OLED display (320 x 320), a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 chipset and 512 MB RAM. 4 GB of internal storage is also present on the watch. LG has provided with a side power button and also a heart rate monitor on G Watch R.
The display resolution has been improved compared to the predecessor G Watch, and you can also replace standard 22 nm calf skin leather straps easily. The watch flaunts IP67 water and dust resist certification and is expected to go on sale by the end of this year. LG G Watch R will compete with Moto 360, the first round display Android wear watch which will go official on September 4. Perhaps circular design will finally help Smartwatches take off.
