Micromax has announced that it will bring Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA update to its popular canvas series smartphones starting from Canvas Xpress A99. Regarding the roll out of Lollipop update, Spokesperson of Micromax Informatics Ltd. said, “ As a brand, we are committed to keep our customers delighted with best in class technologies and experience. Riding on the same thought, we are today rolling out the Android L update with Canvas Xpress, making the overall user experience more efficient and seamless. Micromax thrives on consumer centricity and that is clearly visible through the company’s continued growth trajectory and high recall in consumer mind share.”

Till now, Xolo is the only manufacturer which has provided with Android Lollipop update for Xolo One and Xolo Q610s. Lollipop adoption has been quite slow as compared to Android KitKat. In India, Intex Aqua Star L is the only budget smartphone shipping with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. The new Android Lollipop is a major overhaul which brings new Material design, enhanced security, default ART Runtime, Android L keyboard, new multi tasking panel, animations, etc.

In spite of all these great attributes, only 1.6 percent devices are using Android 5.0 Lollipop as of now. Micromax Canvas series owners can rejoice the confirmation for Lollipop update, but it might take several weeks or months before the rollout is complete.
