Though the new model is getting all the attention right now, the OnePlus 6 has also been a popular phone during the past few months. So, let’s find out what really distinguishes the OnePlus 6T from its previous model OnePlus 6.
Design and Display
Starting with the design, both the OnePlus 6T and OnePlus 6 feature a metal frame and a glass back. However, there are some noticeable differences between them. The first most important difference between these two is display notch. As 6T has a smaller waterdrop notch rather than a rectangle one on OnePlus 6. So, the OnePlus 6T is slightly thicker, taller, and heavier than the OnePlus 6. Next, the glass back on 6T is less bumped up as there’s no fingerprint scanner on the rear. Also, the 6T has it built into the screen.
The OnePlus 6T has a slightly bigger 6.41-inch FHD+ (1080×2340 pixels) Optic AMOLED display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and Gorilla Glass 6 protection. While the OnePlus 6 has a 6.28-inch FHD+ (1080×2280 pixels) display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The main difference is in terms of the notch.
Cameras
Both the phones have a primary 16MP Sony IMX519 sensor with f/1.7 aperture, OIS, EIS, and a secondary 20MP Sony IMX376K sensor with f/1.7 aperture. Up front, they both sport the same 16MP Sony IMX371 sensor with f/2.0 aperture.
On paper, the cameras of both phones look identical. However, there’s more focus on low-light photography with the OnePlus 6T thanks to the new nightscape mode. We expect the OnePlus 6T to offer better low-light pictures with this feature but it’s interesting to know that it’s also coming out to the OnePlus 6 as well.
OnePlus 6T VS OnePlus 6 Specifications
The two phones nearly match in terms of specifications. Both pack the Snapdragon 845 coupled with Adreno 630 GPU, 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB or 256GB storage. The OnePlus 6 also has a base variant with 64GB storage.
Both the phones run OxygenOS based on top of Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box. However, the OnePlus 6 was updated to the Android 9.0 Pie just last month. There is a larger 3,700 mAh battery inside the OnePlus 6T versus the 3300 mAh inside the OnePlus 6. Beyond the specs, there’s one more thing that is changes in 6T which is the lack of headphone jack.
Price
The OnePlus 6T price starts at $549 (Rs. 40,500 roughly) which is for the base model, while the OnePlus 6 was launched at Rs. 34,999 in India. The OnePlus 6T price in India is not yet known but we expect it to be around the same tag. Given that the new OnePlus 6T comes with that fancy in-screen fingerprint sensor, features a tiny teardrop notch, and even a larger battery, this price difference looks justifiable.
Conclusion.
The OnePlus 6T is an upgrade over OnePlus 6 in some ways and is not very different at all. The in-display fingerprint scanner and a new smaller notch are the only main features, but you also get a bigger battery, a slightly bigger screen and camera improvements with the OnePlus 6T.
